Community Supported Agriculture Shares

By investing in a CSA at the Community Garden, you are investing in our local youth, in organic & sustainable growing practices, and in the revitalization of Norway’s Downtown. And best yet, you are investing in your own health by eating delicious, organic, and fresh produce. Cheers to that!

Our CSA program is an opportunity for people to access nutritious, chemical-free food, to connect with the Alan Day Community Garden (ADCG) and support the Youth Leadership Program by purchasing a “share” of the season’s harvest. CSA shares provide the ADCG with a base of local support and enable individuals and families to purchase fruit and vegetables at a discount from typical retail prices.

While sharing in the risk of any growing season (mainly weather related), the purchaser of a CSA share can feel confident that they will receive the full value of their investment by the end of the season. The ADCG will strive to offer a steady variety of produce beginning with spring greens through the fall harvest.  We also work together with other local growers, who sell or donate excess produce to us, that would otherwise become waste.

Items we typically offer include: salad greens, summer & winter squash, carrots, cabbage, beets, tomatoes, kale, radishes, spinach, garlic, swiss chard, beet greens, basil, cilantro, thyme, peas, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, flowers, berries, & fruit.

The CSA program runs roughly from July through September.  Participants can pick up their shares at the ADCG, 26 Whitman Street in Norway, on Saturdays between 11am and 2pm.  If participants are unable to pick up during this time, alternatives can be discussed ahead of time.

A season Share costs $175, is suitable for a family of 2-3 people, and consists of 12 harvest shares, provided weekly. A deposit of $50 is due by May, to reserve your share, and the remainder is due on first pickup.

A Pay-Per-Share arrangement can be made for those who want to participate in the program, but prefer to pay on a weekly basis. A refundable deposit of $25 is due by May, to reserve your share. The deposit will be returned at the end of the program.

SNAP benefits are gladly welcomed to pay for CSA shares.  Payments will be made in-person at the time of pick up.   A refundable deposit of $20 is due by May, to reserve your share. The deposit will be returned at the end of the program.
